Description
This course is a great introduction to essential navigation and safety awareness for those new to boating or those looking to refresh these skills. It complements the practical RYA courses across all areas of boating and the topics include; Charts and Publications, Safety, Engine Checks, Buoyage, Tidal awareness, Visual and Electronic Navigation, Pilotage, Rules of the Road, Anchoring, Weather forecasts, and Passage Planning.

The course takes approx. 6-8 hours but this can be undertaken at your own pace whether you prefer to sit down for a whole day or complete sections over a period of time. There is no formal assessment at the end of this essential navigation course. Instead the course is based on course completion to an acceptable level. As you complete units both you and your instructor will see the results to ensure you have completed and understood the topic.
You will receive access to the online Essential Navigation & Seamanship course along with a course pack. This contains a chart, plotter, dividers, course handbook, exercises. Also access to a training electronic chart plotter. The cost of the online course is £90.

RYA Courses are not automatically activated and whilst we are usually able to set the course up within a couple of hours, on rare occasions it may take up to 48hours, If you require urgent access please contact us before booking online as we are likely to be able to process quickly and we will confirm timescales. Do check your spam box for joining info particularly if you have a Gmail account. Please note that we can only send course packs out to UK addresses (unless previously agreed).

By buying online and requesting immediate access to the course you waive your 14 day right to cancel. If you would rather wait the 14 days and then be set up we are happy to do that. To enable access to your online course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org. This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your personal information for any reason other than enabling your course.
Your name and email address will be entered on www.ryainteractive.org in order to create your user account. On your first access to the site, you will be asked to enter your address and date of birth. You will have access to the site for one year in order to complete your online course. During this period, your personal information will be held on the website by Learning Pool and be available to this training centre and the RYA for the purpose of managing your course. Instructional support will be provided by this training centre for a period of one year from the date of your course booking.
On completion of your course, your name, email, date of birth and address will be transferred to the RYA’s central database for the purpose of recording details of the course and any certification you gain as a result of it. This information allows the RYA to record your certification, to update any records they may already hold about you or your qualifications and to verify your certificate if required. After one year from the date of your enrolment on the course, your user account will be removed from www.ryainteractive.org. Full details of how the RYA will deal with your personal information will be displayed when you first access www.ryainteractive.org.
