VHF (SRC) Marine Radio Course
Please note we have currently stopped ticket sales for our face to face events until May – including the VHF (SRC) Marine Radio Course – in light of the current Covid 19 situation. We are still operating but on an online basis where we have lots of training opportunities. Please follow us on our social media feeds. We are also instigating new approaches to training which may be of interest. This is a rapidly changing situation so please drop us an email to discuss the availability & current situation for future courses later in the season.

The VHF (SRC) marine radio course is the minimum qualification you will require, by law, to operate VHF & Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel fitted with a radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures.
VHF (SRC) Marine Radio Course topics include:
Basics of radio operation, correct channels to use, emergency and medical assistance procedures and making ship to shore communication. Also, you will learn about Digital Selective Calling (DSC), Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and Search and Rescue (SART) equipment
Prior to the VHF (SRC) marine radio course we will send out a book for you to complete pre-course reading. This will enable you to maximise learning on the day, should expect to spend three hours on this work. Although indoors, we will spend a significant amount of time using training radios to practice radio calls. Our instructors are keen to cover information relevant to your water activities whilst covering the mandatory syllabus. We pride ourselves on conducting the assessment in a friendly and relaxed manner whilst maintaining the standards required.
The cost of the classroom course is £85. This includes your course pack. There is an assessment fee of £60 payable to the RYA just prior to the day of assessment.
This Course runs twice a month. So please check out the website for scheduled courses. Contact us for an extra course date if there will be four or more people to be trained.
