VHF Evening Course
ONLINE BOOKING AVAILABLE – PLEASE SCROLL DOWN THE PAGE
We know that some of our clients would like the opportunity to learn the information and then have time to digest it ahead of the final assessment. To that end we have now introduced an evening course. Teaching will take place over two evenings with an assessment on the third evening. Some months there is a gap of a day between the course and the assessment. Please note that the pre course reading requirement still applies.
The VHF (SRC) marine radio course is the minimum qualification you will require, by law, to operate VHF & Digital Selective Calling (DSC) equipment on any British flagged vessel fitted with a radio. A radio is an important piece of safety equipment on board and it is vital to understand the correct procedures.
Course topics include:
Basics of radio operation, correct channels to use, emergency and medical assistance procedures and making ship to shore communication. Also, you will learn about Digital Selective Calling (DSC), Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB) and Search and Rescue (SART) equipment
What Happens?:
Prior to the VHF (SRC) marine radio course we will send out a book for you to complete pre-course reading. This will enable you to maximise learning on the course and you should expect to spend three hours on this work. Although indoors, we will spend a significant amount of time using training radios to practice radio calls. Our instructors are keen to cover information relevant to your water activities whilst covering the mandatory syllabus. We pride ourselves on conducting the assessment in a friendly and relaxed manner whilst maintaining the standards required.
Cost:
The cost of the classroom course is £85. This includes your course pack. There is an assessment fee of £60 payable to the RYA just prior to the day of assessment.
This Course runs twice a month. So please check out the website for scheduled courses. Contact us for an extra course date if there will be four or more people to be trained.
