Day Skipper Theory via Zoom

Day Skipper Theory course delivered live by Zoom.

How does it work?

This is a great way to complete your Day Skipper Theory Course.  We have been teaching via Zoom since the beginning of lockdown so know that the system works.  We have multiple cameras allowing us to zoom in on chartwork and demonstrate examples or move to a presentation or resources.  Initially proposed as a temporary option, this system has shown enormous potential and benefits.   We run the course over eight weekday mornings on Mon and Tues morning throughout February.  You must be able to attend each session. This then allows you time to complete exercises and revision before moving onto the next topic.  It also builds in time to relax ensuring you have time to fully understand topics and building a solid foundation.  The Instructor is available to talk to outside of teaching times.  Think of the time you save driving to a classroom!

Who delivers the Day Skipper Theory via Zoom Course?

Dom has a relaxed and approachable personality.  He prides himself on finding new ways to teach the course content keeping it as interactive as possible for a theory course.  He also appreciates a good coffee break so be assured there will be time to take a break to aid brain power.  Dom enjoys both sailing and power boats.  He is a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster for both disciplines.  He works full time around the water instructing and also skippers a variety of commercial boats, having relevant and up to date examples to illustrate the theory.

Course topics include:

Basics of seamanship, boats, and equipment on-board

Essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage.

Chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer.

Weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, basic introduction to night lights

Emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts.

Pre-requisites and requirements:

You should have been aboard a boat previously but please call us to book a place or discuss the suitability of this course.

You will be provided with  a course pack including training charts and course books.
