RYA Dayskipper Theory Course

Event Details

This event is running from 6 November 2017 until 3 December 2018. It is next occurring on 03/12/2018 09:00

The RYA Dayskipper Theory course is run over 6 days to allow you plenty of time to really understand the course content and ask plenty of questions along the way.  Price £375.00 per person including all course packs.

It is taught by Dom, our Chief Instructor, who is well known for his relaxed and approachable personality.  He prides himself on finding new ways to teach the course content keeping it as interactive as possible for a theory course – expect to see Lego models, model boats and inflatable globes!  He also appreciates a good coffee break so you can be assured we’ll provide plenty of biscuits to aid the brain power.  Dom uses a variety of boats himself and is a commercially endorsed Yachtmaster for both sail and power boats.  He works full time around the water instructing and also skippering commercial boats so you can be assured he has relevant and up to date examples to illustrate the theory.

The course topics include: the basics of seamanship, the essentials of coastal navigation and pilotage, chartwork, electronic charts, position fixing, plotting a course to steer, weather forecasting and meteorology, tides, collision regulations, basic introduction to night lights, construction, part and equipment of a boat and emergency and safety procedures including distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, lifejackets and liferafts.   You will be provided with a course pack which will include training charts and a course book.

No pre course experience required other than having spent a few days on a boat.  Please call us to book a place or discuss the suitability of this course for your training needs.

We are able to schedule this course over three long weekends if that is preferred, please contact us with suggested dates.
